God Will Put More On You Than You Can Handle

A lot of people say “God will not put more on you than you can handle.”

That is not necessarily true.

Here is where they probably get that from.

1 Corinthians 10:13 says “There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that you are able (beyond what you can bear); but will with the temptation also make a way to escape (When you are tempted, He will also provide a way out), that you may be able to bear it (so that you can endure it).”

Let’s look at that very closely.

First of all, it says that temptation is common to everyone. That scripture says it will come.

But, it says when the temptation comes, God will make a way of escape, so that you will be able to bear it and endure it. Endure means to “hold out against, to sustain without yielding, and to bear with patience.”

That scripture is saying that God will help you when you are tempted, so you will not give into sin.

That scripture doesn’t say it won’t be hard. Your flesh will always want to give into sin. Temptation will always be too strong and too much for your flesh to bear or handle. You have to crucify the flesh. If you walk in the Spirit, “you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)

If you walk in the flesh or live with a carnal mind, it will always be too much for you to handle.

Let’s also look at this…

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “The Lord said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why I take pleasure in and delight in my weaknesses, in insults and injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in hardships, distresses, and difficulties for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

When we are weak, we are made strong through God’s grace and power. When we have things come on us that we can’t handle, God’s grace is sufficient! His power can work in our lives to help us in every situation.

That is why 2 Corinthians 4:7 says “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” The power is from God, not us. That is why we can’t handle it. We can’t do it alone. Things will be more than we can handle. It is not our power. If it was us, and our own strength, then we would be able to handle it. It is GOD’S power that is working through us.

We are weak and if we try to do things on our own, a lot of things in our lives will be more than we can handle. But, when we “cast our care and burdens onto the Lord” (Psalm 55:22), then His grace and power will make a way for us.

Matthew 19:26 & Luke 18:27 “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
